Lithium-sulfur battery diagnostics through distribution of relaxation times analysis

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is widely used in battery analysis as it simple to implement and non-destructive. However, the data provided a global representation of all electrochemical processes within cell much useful information ambiguous or inaccessible when using traditional techniques. This major challenge EIS analyse systems with complex chemistries, like lithium-sulfur (Li-S), one strongest candidates supersede conventional Li-ion batteries. Here we demonstrate application distribution relaxation times (DRT) for quantitative deconvolution spectra from Li-S batteries, revealing contributions (eight) distinct electrode total polarisation. The DRT profile shown be strongly dependent on state-of-charge, offering route automated on-board cells.
